INNOVATIONS IN TEACHER EDUCATION AND ASSESSMENT

Abstract

Read abstract

Abstract:In the present global scenario, the education system is undergoing a phase of rapid transformation, as a result of which the traditional approaches to teacher education and assessment are proving to be inadequate. In this context, “Innovations in Teacher Education and Assessment” has emerged as a highly significant area of research, aiming to make the teaching–learning process more effective, flexible, inclusive, and outcome-oriented. The primary objective of the present study is to analyse innovative approaches in teacher education and modern assessment techniques in order to enhance teachers' professional competence and ensure the holistic development of learners. The study is based on a qualitative research methodology, involving the analysis of various research papers, educational reports, and policy documents, with particular reference to the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The findings of the study reveal that innovations such as digital technology, artificial intelligence, blended learning, and competency-based teaching are making teacher education more relevant and effective. Likewise, replacing the traditional examination-oriented assessment system with Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE), formative assessment, project-based assessment, and portfolio-based assessment has proved highly effective in accurately assessing learners' actual abilities, skills, and creativity.Furthermore, inclusive education and the use of technological resources play a significant role in ensuring equal educational opportunities. However, several challenges hinder the effective implementation of these innovations, including inadequate digital infrastructure, insufficient technological competence among teachers, and lack of institutional support. Therefore, it is essential to prioritize continuous professional training, the integration of innovative pedagogical practices, and strong policy support within teacher education programmes so that the education system becomes more responsive, inclusive, and future-oriented. Thus, innovation in teacher education and assessment is not only a means of strengthening educational quality but also an important step towards the development of a sustainable and holistic education system
