The Status of Technology Education in the Hebron-Klipgat Circuit
Abstract
Read abstract
Technology education in South Africa is evolving under the Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS). However, notable implementation discrepancies persist, particularly in semi-rural areas such as the Hebron–Klipgat Circuit. This paper provides a modern, scholarly reevaluation of the condition of Technology education in this context. The study employed a qualitative research approach, utilizing interviews, focus groups, and document analysis with instructors, Heads of Department, and students from three intentionally selected schools. Thematic analysis of five research questions indicated ongoing disparities in resource accessibility, irregular incorporation of technology in pedagogy, disjointed curricular alignment with CAPS, and inadequate teacher training. Persistent funding limitations and inconsistent departmental execution impeded advancement. The research advocates for focused professional development, equitable allocation of resources, enhanced clarity in policy communication, and reinforced monitoring systems. The broader implications for South African educational policy are emphasized, accompanied by recommendations for further study on capacity-building and pedagogical innovation.
