Artificial Intelligence and Smart Sensors in Teaching and Research Innovation in Higher Education
Abstract
Read abstract
Artificial intelligence (AI) and smart sensor technologies are increasingly transforming coreacademic functions within universities, particularly in teaching and learning and research innovation. Ineducational environments, AI-driven platforms support personalized learning, adaptive assessment, andautomated feedback, while sensor-enabled smart classrooms generate real-time environmental andengagement data that enhance instructional effectiveness and learning conditions. In research settings, advanced sensor networks embedded in laboratories and experimental systems produce high-frequencydatasets that AI algorithms analyse to accelerate discovery, optimize experimental design, and enable semiautonomous scientific workflows. This paper examines the integrated development of AI and smart sensorsystems across these two domains. It argues that the convergence of intelligent algorithms and sensorgenerated data is creating data-driven academic ecosystems that enhance precision, efficiency, andpersonalization in both education and research. However, these advancements also introduce challengesrelated to data governance, algorithmic transparency, reproducibility, privacy, and ethical oversight. The studyhighlights the need for responsible implementation frameworks that align technological innovation withacademic values and scientific rigor. By focusing on teaching and research transformation, this papercontributes to understanding how AI and smart sensors are reshaping the future of higher education.
